address — Parcel Address

Description: Parcel Physical Street Address - This is the address of the parcel itself. Not every parcel has a street address, especially in agricultural areas and other large parcels. Also called the "situs address" or "site address".

Use it for: The parcel's own street address (situs/site address) - where the property is physically located. Not every parcel has one (e.g. large agricultural or vacant parcels).

Do not use it for: The owner's mailing address - that is mailadd, which is frequently a different location (such as an absentee owner). Use the situs address fields for where the property is.

city — US Census County Subdivision

Description: US Census County Subdivision - https://www2.census.gov/geo/pdfs/reference/GARM/Ch8GARM.pdf. Used for organizational purposes. Refer to scity for the city associated with the site address.

Use it for: From the seamless US Census County Subdivsion data. Can be useful for technical spatial organization and categorization but does not reflect the parcel city.

Do not use it for: The parcel's city for mailing or display - this is the US Census County Subdivision, used for spatial organization. For the parcel address city, use scity.

original_address — Original Parcel Address

Description: Parcel Address fields as originally provided by the county, encoded as a JSON object. This field was originally separated by a semicolon and a space and data will exist in that format as a migration happens over time.

How it's made: Combined into a JSON blob from the values sent by county
Units: JSON · Valid range: Some older values may still be in semicolon-delimited format · Example: {"address":"12340 REID RD","saddno":"123400","saddstr":"REID RD","scity":"DURAND","szip":"48429"}

location_name — Location Name

Description: A name commonly associated with this parcel

Example: Briarwood Mall

address_source — Primary Address Source

Description: Primary source of the address data for the parcel record. Default source if none is listed is the county.

mailadd — Mailing Address

Description: Parcel Mailing Address - This is the address where the tax and other assessor's communications are sent. It is often thought of as the owner's mailing address. It is often the same address as the parcel physical street address, but very commonly it is a different address than the parcel address itself.

Use it for: The owner's mailing address, where the county sends tax bills and assessor correspondence. Often differs from the parcel's own location.

Do not use it for: The location of the parcel itself - for that use address (the situs/site address). A mailing address that differs from the parcel address can indicate an absentee or non-occupant owner.

usps_vacancy — USPS Vacancy Indicator

Description: USPS vacancy indicator. Indicates if an address is considered vacant or occupied. Usually means the address is still active, but has been vacant for some period of time. Does not indicate vacant land.

Use it for: Is the property occupied?

Do not use it for: Doesn't find vacant land (aka no buildings)

usps_vacancy_date — USPS Vacancy Indicator Date

Description: Date of the USPS data used for all USPS related attributes.

Use it for: Date we last processed the property address through CASS validation

Description: USPS delivery point validation status code. Indicates if the USPS considers the address as a valid delivery point or not.

Use it for: Is this a valid USPS delivery point?

Do not use it for: To verify if this is a "real" address. Many real addresses do not receive mail.

dpv_type — Delivery Point Match Type

Description: Type of the delivery point match. H indicates more than one unit for the street address, it could be as few as two units in a duplex, the "highrise" description is misleading, any address with multiple units will have the H type, regardless of the physical structures on the parcel.

Use it for: Highrise, single address, or rural route indicator. Can tell you if this property has multiple units.
